Rebuilds, Repairs & Maintenance

At ReelTape, the philosophy that guides the workshop is simple: keep any professional or prosumer reel-to-reel recorder true to its original design. To that end service manual are procured before any work starts. The concept of pro tape machines can rarely be improved upon even after half a century. Once rebuilt, a tape recorder is good for another fifty or so years of regular use.

ReelTape is specialised in vintage Revox, Studer, Tascam, and Teac tape recorders. Vintage studio gear (both tube- and semiconductor-based) such as pre-amps, outboards, and consoles are routine rebuilt or repaired. Consumer brand hifi equipment (Akai, Ampex, MCI, Philips, Pioneer, Scully, Tandberg, Technics, Uher, etc) is welcome and serviced with the same dedication to perfection. ReelTape also services and rebuilds audiophile and sound-reinforcement equipment such as power amplifiers and guitar heads, amps, and effect pedals.

For rebuilds and repairs modern components are used equivalent to the original ones. Only premium parts find their way into the equipment ReelTape services. No gear leaves the workshop until all functions have been throughly checked and all performance parameters (as specified by the manufacturer) are met. ReelTape does not service digital equipment.

All work is guaranteed in writing for two years. Repairs outside the warranty period are discounted.

The Workshop

The ReelTape workshop is well-equipped to service reel-to-reel recorders. Gear includes (2) bench power supplies, (2) audio-frequency generators, frequency counter, (2) VTVMs, CRT oscilloscope, digital oscilloscope, wow & flutter meter, distortion meter, various multimeters, and more esoteric devices such as a valve (tube) tester and an electronic load.
